This Legal Notice and Disclaimer forms part of the Terms of Service of Play SC:BW (the "Service"). Capitalised terms have the meaning given there.
1. An independent fan project
Play SC:BW is a free, non-commercial, independent project made by fans, for fans, for the purposes of nostalgia, preservation, education and enjoyment of a classic of real-time strategy.
Play SC:BW is not affiliated, associated, authorised, endorsed by, sponsored by or in any way officially connected with any video game developer, publisher or rights holder, or with any of their parents, subsidiaries or affiliates. Nothing on the Service is an official product, service or statement of any such company.
2. No ownership claimed; all rights belong to their owners
All third-party games, game data, graphics, sounds, music, voices, maps, names, characters, logos, trade marks and other works and marks are the property of their respective rightful owners. The Operator claims no ownership of, and no right, title or interest in, any of them. Any name, abbreviation or descriptive term on the Service that refers to a third party's work is used only in a nominative and descriptive sense, to describe compatibility and the community the Service is made for, and implies no affiliation, sponsorship or endorsement.
3. We do not distribute the game
The Operator does not sell or license any Third-Party Game Content, and does not host, mirror, upload or distribute the game, its installers or its data archives. What the Operator provides is its own original platform: software, networking, accounts, matchmaking, ladder, rankings, statistics, guides, competitions and community features, together with components used under licence.
The Service cannot be used to play without game data. That data is retrieved by each user's own device, when that user chooses to start a game, directly from publicly accessible locations on the internet that are owned, operated and controlled exclusively by third parties unconnected with the Operator, and it is then kept in that user's browser, on that user's device. It is not delivered by or through the Operator's systems. The Operator does not control those third-party locations, does not vouch for them, and cannot add or remove anything from them.
4. Your responsibility
By using the Service you confirm that you hold a valid, lawfully obtained licence to, or copy of, every game whose data you use with it, that you are lawfully entitled to obtain and use that data in the way you do, and that doing so is lawful where you are. You alone are responsible for the game data on your device and for everything you do with it, including streaming and recording. If you cannot give that confirmation, do not use the Service. The full terms are in Section 4 of the Terms of Service.
5. No warranty; no advice
The Service and everything on it, including guides, statistics, ratings, analysis and any automated or AI-generated output, is provided "as is" and "as available", for entertainment and general information only, without warranty of any kind, and is used entirely at your own risk. Nothing on the Service is legal, financial or other professional advice. The Operator does not warrant that any content is accurate, complete or current, and accepts no liability for reliance on it. Sections 20 and 21 of the Terms of Service apply.
6. Links and third parties
The Service may link to or interact with third-party websites and services that the Operator does not control. The Operator is not responsible for their content, availability, security, legality or privacy practices, and a link is not an endorsement.
7. Free and non-commercial
Play SC:BW is free to use. It sells nothing, has no paid features, subscriptions or virtual goods, shows no advertising, and does not sell or rent personal data. Nobody pays to play, and nothing is charged for, or received in connection with, any game data, which the Operator does not provide in any case. The project exists because the people behind it love the game and want it to stay playable.
8. Rights holders
The Operator respects intellectual property and wishes to cooperate with rights holders. Any rights holder with a concern is invited to write to [email protected] and to use the procedure in the Copyright and Intellectual Property Policy. Every good faith communication will be reviewed promptly.
9. Reservation of rights
Nothing on the Service is an admission of any fact or liability, or a waiver of any right, defence or safe harbour available to the Operator under any law. All rights are reserved.
